Blackletter Advisory was established by James Lee, an experienced in-house counsel and chartered accountant. Mr. Lee’s consultancy practice encompasses consulting advisory services in blockchain and digital assets, corporate governance, commercial transactions, enterprise risk management, and investment as well as business startup.
Mr. Lee holds an LLB (Hons) from the University of London, is a qualified accountant with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (United Kingdom), and possesses an MBA from the University of Melbourne. With over twenty years of in-house legal and financial experience at multinational corporations, Mr. Lee was formerly the APAC Legal Director of Sumsub, a global RegTech firm, and the Global Legal Director of Ebang, a Nasdaq listed company, in addition, he has held positions at, and provided counsel to, entities such as Huobi Global, Siemens, Orica, ASM, and Rohde & Schwarz. His expertise includes, but is not limited to, cross-border transactions, corporate governance, investment projects (including venture capital and funding), compliance, and risk management.
In addition to his academic and professional qualifications, Mr. Lee is also recognized for his expertise in academic and legal writing. He has contributed significantly to thought leadership in the fields of law, regulation, and digital assets through his published works. Notably, Mr. Lee is the author of Asia Pacific Gambling Regulations and the Crypto Exchange License Application Guidebook, and served as General Editor and Co-Author of the Sumsub APAC Identity Fraud Report 2024. He is also the author of Jurisprudence Key Notes by Philosophers. These publications underscore his commitment to advancing knowledge and best practices within the legal and regulatory landscape.
Beyond his qualifications and scholarly contributions, Mr. Lee is an active member of several esteemed professional bodies, including the Singapore Corporate Counsel Association and the International Bar Association. These credentials and affiliations further underscore his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professional competence and ethical practice within the business advisory fields.
